Experiences

Experiences at the lodge
Although you can kayak, paddleboard, kite-surf or simply relax in beautiful secluded beaches, Wakatobi is all about diving & snorkeling the reefs.

Scuba Diving

Nowhere else do you have such ease of access to miles of pristine reefs with diverse topography and marine life. Forget about long and arduous boat journeys, at Wakatobi, it’s all here to enjoy stress free.

We have more than 40 sites to dive, and all are accessible by our day boats. Boat rides range from 10 minutes up to just a maximum of an hour for only a few of the furthest sites. See our dive sites map here

Our house reef is world-famous and has been named the world’s best. Some guests even choose to forgo boat dives because the seagrass beds, reef, and wall right in front of the resort provide enough territory and diversity for days of exploration. And there is no need to swim long distances. We even offer a taxi-boat service to transport divers up current to extended parts of the House Reef for an easy and enjoyable drift back to the jetty

Snorkeling

Wakatobi is a snorkeler and freediver’s dream. Our daily boat excursions offer access to breathtaking shallow reefs – a snorkeler’s paradise. You can also independently explore our vibrant House Reef, teeming with healthy corals, seagrass meadows, and myriad marine creatures.

Snorkelers at Wakatobi receive the same level of support as scuba divers. Most of our dive sites are rated for suitability for snorkeling based on the reef topography. Snorkelers who join the morning and afternoon boat excursions are accompanied by a professional snorkel guide who is versed in the marine life found on our reefs. Snorkeling equipment as well as camera and video systems are handled by our team and will already be on the boat when you step aboard. Towels, snacks, and camera assistance are also provided and the boat crew constantly monitors snorkelers while they are in the water.

The House Reef is monitored by our shored-based staff, who also have access to taxi boats to shuttle snorkelers further up current for a comfortable and engaging snorkel back to the jetty.

Is Wakatobi a good place for underwater photography?

The photo opportunities here are stupendous and we offer support and equipment of a level that satisfies the many pros who visit us.

When is the best season to go to Wakatobi?

In Wakatobi you can enjoy diving 365 days a year. The climate is drier than in other parts of Indonesia, and the location is nicely protected by the surrounding reefs and islands. However, there is a higher risk of rain in December-February, so we recommend diving Wakatobi in March-November.

What about non divers? Is Wakatobi good for snorkelling too?

Wakatobi is an ideal place for snorkelers. The house reef and many dive sites have beautiful shallows on the coral tops.

This resort is wonderful I was there in June 23. Your treated like a King. Everything is just done for you all your dive gear is waiting on the dive boats for you. Plenty of snacks, hot towels after the dive, just awesome and of course you get to do 90-minute dives.
And I haven’t got to the restaurant, delicious from all the fresh foods to the Roasts and all the desert prepared every day and the homemade ice cream.
    What an awesome dive resort.
    The staff was wonderful.
    I’ll be Back!!

There is very little I can add to the other reviews. This is one of the finest diving resorts on the planet. They have successfully integrated with and have supported the local population over many years and it shows. The diving, infrastructure, restaurant, service, and overall atmosphere are the best. The house reef alone is better than many places I’ve dived.
It is a bit of work to get here, even with their charted flight, but they make it as easy as possible. There are some activities for non-divers, but they are not extensive.
In summary, if you are a diver this resort should be on your bucket list.

What a week on Pelagian! This is muck heaven, a window to a new world. But don’t let that fool you, the reefs and corals are amazing! Your enthusiasm for the big and tiny have brought us to a new level of appreciation for diving.
